New Coldseal® Machines Set To Wrap Up The Market For Flexible, Automated Packaging

Angus & Wright, one of Europe’s leading suppliers of automated packaging machinery, has launched two new machines to cater for small and long items, giving packers the option of automating what until now have been expensive manual operations.

For some years now, Angus & Wright’s 9000 range of Coldseal® machines have been the system of choice for companies engaged in the packaging of goods such as books, CDs, clothing and electrical components. By introducing the 4500 and the 800 range, Angus & Wright has opened up the possibility of automation for companies who need to pack items of varying sizes or where the length of the item would normally make automation impossible.

The new 4500 (above) and 800
ranges (below) expand Coldseal's
advanced product range

The 4500 range is designed specifically for smaller items which can be packaged in pouches up to 51 cm deep in widths of either 15 or 30 cms, with the machine sensing and adjusting automatically to different lengths. Up to 50 units a minute can be packed efficiently and safely in this way. A touch screen allows for easy set up and configuration, with adjustments up to one tenth of an inch to save material costs. A wide range of optional features are available with this machine including extra hopper features, safety guards, labelling, dual exit conveyors, visual and audio alert systems and a reject station for mislabelled or unreadable bar codes. Typical applications for the Coldseal® 4500 packaging machine are pharmaceuticals, software, automotive parts, multi-purpose mail order fulfilment and small promotional items.

The 800 range caters for long objects, up to 6 metres with a maximum width of 38 cms. Whereas previously it has been difficult to pack a variety of lengthy items in one automated process, the 800 range can deal with 40 units per minute at the shorter end of the scale and up to 20 units per minute for more lengthy items. As the objects are fed, in V-shaped guides compress the packaging around the item to form a completely sealed protective pack ready for labelling and shipping. This makes the Coldseal® 800 packaging machine ideal for items such as golf clubs, umbrellas, fishing rods, blinds, curtain or shower rails - opening up the possibility of automation to a myriad of companies throughout Europe.

Both machines are technologically advanced with touch screen controls, photo-electric cells, Siemens electronics and pneumatic spindles. As no heating is required for the Coldseal® process, the machines are economical to use and environmentally sound. No special ventilation or complex utility connections are required. Amongst all the other benefits of using Coldseal® machines, the reduction in material wastage, energy consumption and labour costs are likely to be very attractive to many companies looking to improve their competitive position and productivity.

The packaging materials are supplied to Angus & Wright exclusively by BSK, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of coated and laminated products. BSK, which is part of the DS Smith Plastics group, has developed the Coldseal® range of packaging materials with a special latex coating on the inner face which seals to itself when pressed together by the machine. The result is a custom-made, tamper-evident protective pack that fits snugly around the item, avoiding any movement of goods in transit. All Coldseal® materials are 100% recyclable and come in the form of Kraft, corrugated paper, polyfilm and bubble. Various colours and grades are available to ensure customers can choose the right materials for different purposes.

The combination of benefits from both the machines and the materials effectively mean that Coldseal® is the most effective solution for the packaging of small objects on the market today.

There are some exhibitions coming up soon which will provide a chance to meet the experts and inspect at first hand the current model 9000.

The next opportunity will be at Fachpack in Nuremberg from September 29th - October 1st 2004 where you can find the Coldseal range on Stand 4-337.

The range will also be featured at Pack Expo in Chicago from November 7th - November 11th 2004 and Emballage in Paris from November 22nd - November 26th 2004.

If you would like to meet Angus & Wright at any of these events please call Angelika Adang on +44(0)1264-737533, send a fax on +44(0)1264-737531 or email sales@anguswright.com. You can use the same contact details to obtain a brochure and a CD demonstrating the new 4500 and 800 Coldseal® range.
