Foil faced vapour barrier
Accreditation : BS 1521 A1F
Sisalkraft 714 is a foil-faced waterproof Building paper meeting the requirements of BS 1521
A1F. It is used as a vapour barrier membrane in walls and ceilings of insulated building structures,
to reduce or prevent interstitial condensation.
Construction
Sisalkraft 714 is a foil-faced waterproof building paper, with two plies of kraft paper laminated
together with bitumen, reinforced with glass fibre yarn, and faced with a pure aluminium foil having
a bright reflective surface.

Fixing/Sitework
Store rolls before use on end on a clean, dry surface protected from the weather. Material should
not be unrolled if the temperature is below 5°C as the adhesive will become brittle and may crack.
Sisalkraft 714 is fixed internally on the warm side of the insulated structure. It should be
nailed or stapled to the inside face of the studwork or framing. Welt or seal all laps with butyl
double-sided tape or with a suitable waterproof building tape and repair any holes or service
penetrations to give a continuous vapourproof barrier. The internal cladding, for example
plasterboard, can then be nailed through the VB to the studs or framework.
A correctly specified and installed vapour barrier will assist in meeting the requirements of BS
5250:1989 Control of condensation in buildings.
